Valtra/Valmet Mega HiTech range – the electronically controlled step of the six-cylinder big tractors: 8050 to 8950, 80.9 to 117.7 kW, six-cylinders of 6,593 to 7,365 cm³
The Mega HiTech was, in 1991, Valmet's first generation of electronically controlled big tractors, the Finnish maker from Suolahti with its engine plant in Linnavuori. HiTech denoted a dedicated electronic engine and transmission control with which Valmet upgraded the previously purely hydraulic Mega tractors; the type logic stayed the same as on the base range – the first digit 8 marks the big-tractor class, the following digits the step from the 8050 up to the 8950 as the largest version. The six-cylinder engines come unchanged from Valmet's own Linnavuori plant.

The register lists here 6 versions with 80.9 to 117.7 kW from six-cylinders of 6,593 to 7,365 cm³, torque from 615 to 650 Nm at rated speeds of 1,800 to 2,200 rpm, unladen weights from 4,740 to 5,720 kg, lengths from 4,757 to 4,940 mm, widths from 2,155 to 2,355 mm and heights from 2,750 to 2,830 mm.
The HiTech electronics – monitoring engine, transmission and hydraulics through a central operating terminal – was Valmet's first step towards data display and diagnostics in the tractor and laid the ground for the later Versu and Direct transmission electronics of the Valtra brand; on the market the range competed with the electronically controlled big tractors of Fendt and Case IH.
On used HiTech tractors the electronics matter most: the function of the operating terminal, sensors and wiring should be checked before the engine itself, along with operating hours, hydraulic tightness, cab and mudguards for rust, and transmission and PTO; parts run through the Valtra and AGCO network.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
