Valtra A (2nd series) – Finnish compact tractors from Suolahti: the A72 and A82, three- and four-cylinder SISU diesels, 54 to 65 kW (74 to 88 hp)
The second series of the Valtra A range represents the smaller power class of the Finnish maker from Suolahti, which was formed in 1997 from the merger of the tractor divisions of Valmet and Sisu and has belonged to AGCO since 2004. The model designation follows a simple logic: the number after the A range letter approximates the engine output, as in the three-cylinder A72 and the four-cylinder A82, both powered by SISU engines.

The register lists 2 versions with 54 to 65 kW (74 to 88 hp) from three to four cylinders of 3,300 to 4,400 cm³, unladen weights of 3,330 to 3,450 kg, a gross vehicle weight of 7,000 kg, a length of 3,957 mm, widths of 2,137 to 2,175 mm and heights of 2,655 to 2,685 mm.
Within the Valtra line-up, the A series occupied the compact entry segment for smaller farms, fruit and vine growing and municipal use, where manoeuvrability and a favourable power-to-weight ratio mattered more than high drawbar pull; it rounded off the brand's larger, more powerful ranges from below and shared numerous components with the parallel-built models from the same works family.
On used examples, the condition of the injection pump and turbocharger, the tightness of the cooling system, the state of clutch and gearbox, and the function of the hydraulics and PTO all count; spare parts run through AGCO's Valtra dealer network and independent farm-machinery dealers, and for wear parts also through workshops specialising in SISU engines.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
