The 902 from Ursus is part of the C-385 / 902 / 1201 / 1204 series. Production: 1978-1984. The engine delivers 75 hp (61 kW). The unladen weight is 4,620 kg. Transmission: 16+8. The engine is water-cooled. The model was built in Poland. The C-385 / 902 / 1201 / 1204 series covers 5 models and was built 1969-1985. Rated output within it ranges from 75 to 112 hp; the 902 sits at the bottom of that range with 75 hp. Its immediate neighbours are the C-385 above it with 82 hp. Unladen weight within it ranges from 3,525 to 6,400 kg; here the 902 sits in the lower part of that range with 4,620 kg. 221 Ursus models across 12 series are on record.

Ursus C-385 — the same tractor was later called 902

Anyone searching for a C-385 and anyone searching for an Ursus 902 often means the same machine: in the early 1980s the C-385 designation was simply changed to Ursus 902. That explains why both names run side by side on the used market and why they sit here in one series.

The C-385 is not a purely Polish design. In 1962 a government agreement with Czechoslovakia led to lasting cooperation with Zetor, for which a joint research and development centre was set up in Brno. The C-385 was designed there and built at the Ursus plant in Warsaw. Series production began in July 1969.

Engine output rose in stages. At first the Z-8001 unit delivered 76 hp; in 1973 the Z-7501 replaced it and lifted output to 82 hp. In 1976 a turbocharged version arrived reaching 100 hp. Comparing two offers, it is therefore worth asking about the engine type — the designation alone does not say which development stage stands before you.

The Ursus 1201 was developed from the C-385 but received a six-cylinder of 112 hp. Rear linkage lift capacity rose from 1,700 to 3,000 kg and the clutch system was reworked. A whole family grew from this line: 902, 904, 912, 914, 1002, 1004, 1012 and 1014.

For parts hunting the ancestry is decisive: these machines share their base design with Zetor. Anyone drawing a blank with Polish suppliers should look to Czech ones next.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
