The 416DA comes from Unimog. Production: 1982. The engine has 6 cylinders, with a displacement of 5,675 cm³. The machine is 5,230 mm long and 2,200 mm wide. The unladen weight is 4,039 kg. The wheelbase measures 2,920 mm. The gross vehicle weight is 6,630 kg. The machine runs on 4 wheels. Unladen weight across the Unimog range ranges from 2,160 to 11,580 kg; the 416DA sits in the lower part of that range with 4,039 kg. Its immediate neighbours are the U1200/424 below it with 3,938 kg and the U 1000 424 C above it with 4,140 kg. 62 Unimog models across 3 series are on record. The model is listed under Trucks over 7.5 t. 10 verified figures from 1 source are on file.

Unimog – other models: the collective page of the universal motor implement outside the named ranges, from the 401 and 404 through the 406 and 416 to the U 1000 to U 1700, 4 to 6 cylinders, 1,730 to 11,580 kg unladen weight

This page gathers the Unimog models the register could not assign to a named range – from the early 401 of the 1950s through the military-oriented 404 to the mid-range U 1000 to U 1700. The Unimog (Universal-Motor-Gerät, universal motor implement) was developed from 1946 by Albert Friedrich, built from 1948 initially by Boehringer in Göppingen, and taken over by Daimler-Benz from 1951, which settled production in Gaggenau before moving it to Wörth am Rhein in 2002. The type logic changed several times: the three-digit models 401 to 437 of the 1950s to 1980s distinguish ranges and versions without the number itself naming a fixed size class; the mid-range U 900 to U 1700 introduced in 1988 carries the approximate engine output in hp in its name. Common to all ranges is the portal-axle running gear with large ground clearance and the power take-offs and mounting spaces at front, rear and centre that make the Unimog an implement carrier for municipalities, rail and the military.

The register lists here 82 versions; power figures are recorded for only three models (18 to 90 kW), displacements range from 1,700 to 6,374 cm³ across four to six cylinders, unladen weights from 1,730 to 11,580 kg, gross weights from 3,500 to 15,000 kg, lengths from 3,290 to 7,000 mm and widths from 1,580 to 2,520 mm.

The Unimog has no direct rival in its combination of off-road ability, PTO output and payload; it serves as road-building equipment, fire and disaster-relief vehicle, dual-mode rail-and-road vehicle and military transport vehicle in more than 100 countries.

On older models, rust on frame and portal axles, the condition of the transfer case and differential locks count, on all model years the tightness of PTOs and hydraulic connections, and, depending on prior use, wear from continuous municipal or military service; parts run through the Mercedes-Benz Unimog network.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
