The Torpedo factory in Rijeka, Croatia, was founded back in 1853 as a metal foundry and later became the world's first torpedo factory. After the last torpedo was built in 1966, the plant switched to diesel engines, signed a contract with Deutz-Fahr in 1975 for water-cooled diesel engines, and developed its own tractors from 1985.

The "Adriatic" suffix on several models refers to the plant's location on Croatia's Adriatic coast and served Torpedo as an export designation for the Mediterranean region.
From 1990 the company ran into financial difficulties; insolvency proceedings were not concluded until 2000, which finally ended the factory's involvement in tractor building after more than 140 years of industrial history.
Deutz-Fahr still exists today as a brand within the SDF group, so at least engine parts for the water-cooled TD engines can in principle still be sourced through Deutz's distribution network, even though Torpedo itself no longer exists. Torpedo-specific bodywork and attachment parts, however, can now only be found through collectors and specialist restoration workshops. Before buying, it is also worth checking that the engine number matches the original Deutz specification.
