The 50D/2 from Stellantis Europe is part of the 50D series. Production: 2015-2026. The fuel is 7-15 ppm Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel. The rated output is 49 kW. The engine is turbocharged. The engine meets emissions stage Tier 4 (Final or Phase In). Fuel reaches the combustion chamber through direct injection. The charge air is air-cooled. It is a four-stroke diesel engine. The cylinders are arranged in line. The 50D series covers 10 models. Rated output within it ranges from 34 to 54 kW; the 50D/2 sits in the upper part of that range with 49 kW. Its immediate neighbours are the 50D/7 below it with 45 kW and the 50D/1 above it with 50 kW. 14 Stellantis Europe models across 2 series are on record.

Stellantis Europe 50D – nonroad diesel engines: three-cylinders of 2.2 or 3.0 litres displacement, 34 to 54 kW, Tier 4 Final, fixed waste-gate turbocharging, EPA certification

Stellantis Europe certifies, under the internal 50D designation, a range of small three-cylinder diesel engines with the US EPA for nonroad use; Stellantis was formed in 2021 from the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the PSA group (Peugeot, Citroën, Opel), and through its commercial-vehicle and powertrain divisions also markets engines for applications outside road use. The EPA engine-family codes, such as GFTGL02.2R3C or MFTGL03.0R3C, encode displacement (2.2 or 3.0 litres) and cylinder count (R3 for three cylinders in line).

The register lists here 10 versions with 34 to 54 kW rated output at 2,500 to 2,600 rpm, from three-cylinders with a constant 94 mm bore and 107 mm stroke. Maximum torque ranges from 160 to 250 Nm at 1,800 rpm. All engines have fixed waste-gate turbocharging and common-rail direct injection, run on low-sulphur diesel and are certified throughout to Tier 4 (Final or Phase-in), in the 37 to under 56 kW power category; the certification covers both EPA distribution areas.

Engines of this size class drive small construction machinery, compressors, generator sets and small farm implements; for Stellantis, the nonroad certification opens a market beyond its own commercial vehicles, where compact three-cylinder diesels compete with makers such as Kubota or Yanmar.

On a used purchase, operating hours count, the condition of the turbocharging and its waste-gate control, the common-rail injectors, and on Tier 4 Final versions the exhaust aftertreatment; the tightness of crankshaft seals and charge-air ducting should be checked before buying. Spares run through the Stellantis sales network.

What to check before buying

  • Match the data plate against the order: frame size, mounting and rating have to agree.
  • For used units, ask about winding condition and bearing play.
  • Ask about parts availability for this series — the running costs hang on it.
