SsangYong Motor, based in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, launched the compact Actyon SUV in 2005 and followed a year later with the Actyon Sports pick-up, an open-bed version registered as a commercial vehicle. The designation A200 XDi denotes the 2.0-litre common-rail diesel XDi engine, 2WD and 4WD the rear- or four-wheel drive, and AUT. the automatic gearbox. After SsangYong's 2009 insolvency and its 2011 takeover by the Indian Mahindra group, the Actyon Sports remained in production until it was replaced by the Musso in 2018.

The register lists 7 versions rated at 104 kW from a four-cylinder engine of 1,990 to 1,998cc, kerb weights of 1,841 to 2,070kg, gross vehicle weights of 2,640 to 2,740kg, lengths of 4,950 to 4,990mm and widths of 1,900 to 1,910mm.

As a pick-up the Actyon Sports competed with the Mitsubishi L200, Nissan Navara and Toyota Hilux, but built its following chiefly in Eastern Europe, Russia and other export markets, where SsangYong competed on price. The standard leaf-sprung rear axle and a comparatively high towing capacity for the class also made it a popular tow vehicle for trailers and small boats.

Checklist for a used example: turbocharger and common-rail injection, four-wheel-drive transfer case and propshaft, corrosion on the load bed, frame and tow hitch, brakes and suspension bushes after use under load; spare parts are available through SsangYong importers, though more thinly spread than for Japanese rivals.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
