Sonalika International: India's export brand, from the International 750 to the DI-60 Rx, 22 to 67 kW (30 to 90 hp), two- to five-cylinder engines with water cooling

International Tractors Limited (ITL) was built up in 1995 as the core of the Sonalika Group, founded in 1969, in Hoshiarpur, India, and launched its first own-design tractor in 1996 based on work from the CMERI research institute. Under the product name "International", Sonalika has marketed much of its model range ever since.

The register lists 28 live models, from the International 750 through the DI-35 line to the DI-60 Rx, with outputs from 22 to 67 kW, or 30 to 90 hp, and lift capacity up to 1,600 kg, across two- to five-cylinder engines.

From 2000 to 2005, Renault held a 20 percent stake in ITL and had licensed Renault-Sonalika tractors built in a joint venture, before Sonalika bought back the stake after Renault Agriculture was sold to Claas.

Today Sonalika ranks among India's largest tractor exporters and operates in more than 150 countries, with the International line forming the backbone of its entry and mid-range segment.

In the power class covered here, 22 to 67 kW, the ISO 730 three-point linkage is mostly built to Category I or II, and the PTO runs at the 540 rpm speed standard for this class. Since Sonalika, as ITL, remains one of India's largest tractor makers, spares for the International line are in principle available through the brand's global dealer network outside India too, though with longer lead times than for European brands.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
