The Schlüter DZM 15 belongs to the DZM series. Production: 6/1937–1938. The engine delivers 14 hp (10.3 kW), has 1 cylinder, with a displacement of 1,662 cm³. Rated speed is 1,250 rpm. The unladen weight is 1,500 kg. The wheelbase measures 1,700 mm. Top speed is 15 km/h. Transmission: 4/1. The engine is Verdampfer. Tyres: front 5.5-16, rear 8.00-20. The fuel is diesel. Construction: frame construction. The gearbox offers 4 forward gears. Around 33 units were built. Rated output across the Schlüter range ranges from 13 to 500 hp; the DZM 15 sits at the bottom of that range with 14 hp. Its immediate neighbours are the ASL 130 below it with 13 hp and the AS 15 above it with 15 hp. Rated output across the Schlüter range ranges from 9.5 to 368 kW; here the DZM 15 sits at the bottom of that range with 10.3 kW. 91 Schlüter models across 19 series are on record.

Schlüter DZM 15: single-cylinder tractor with evaporative cooling, rated at 10.3 kW and 1,500 kg weight from the pre-war DZM range

Schlüter was a German tractor manufacturer based in Freising in Bavaria, building a wide power range from the 1930s until it ceased tractor production in 1993, from compact single-cylinders to the high-output large tractors it later became known for. The DZM range counts among the company's early pre-war models.

The DZM 15 is powered by a single-cylinder engine of 1,662 cc with evaporative cooling, producing 10.3 kW (14 hp) at 1,250 rpm. At a weight of 1,500 kg and a wheelbase of 1,700 mm, the tractor reaches a design top speed of 15 km/h. Height stands at 1,490 mm and length at 2,700 mm. The engine runs on diesel.

A single-cylinder of this power class with evaporative cooling, which works without a water pump or radiator by letting the cooling water evaporate, marks one of the simplest and lightest field tractors of the pre-war era. Such machines gradually replaced horse teams on smaller farms. The 15 km/h top speed falls within today's L driving licence category.

A vehicle this old is today found mainly as a collector's or museum piece. At inspection, the completeness of original parts, the condition of the evaporative cooling and any rust damage to the sheet metal count among the most important points, along with comparing fitted components to the original delivered condition.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
