SAME Iron 100 to 185 (2000s) – the water-cooled successor to the Silver from Treviglio: the number as hp class, four- and six-cylinders of 4.0 and 6.1 litres, powershift and stepless transmissions, 74 to 135 kW
The Iron was SAME's step into the water-cooled era: after the Treviglio brand had built air-cooled engines for five decades, the SDF group introduced water-cooled engines with common-rail injection in the 2000s, and the Iron replaced the Silver and the Rubin as the mid and upper range. The type logic: the number gives the hp class – Iron 100 about 100 hp, 130 130 hp, 160 160 hp, 185 about 185 hp – the models up to 130 carry four-cylinders of 4.0 litres, the models from 140 six-cylinders of 6.1 litres; the register span of 4,038 to 6,057 cm³ shows the two engine families. Transmissions were available as powershift with up to 40 speeds or, from the late models, as the stepless Continuo, plus front-axle suspension and the cab SDF shared with Deutz-Fahr (Agrotron) – the Iron is technically the twin of the Agrotron in different sheet metal.
