The Mascott was based on the Iveco Daily and resulted from the cooperation between Renault and Iveco; it replaced the Master in this weight segment at Renault and was offered as a chassis cab, panel van (Fourgon) and with a crew cab. The type designation gives the power class before the hyphen and the gross weight in tonnes after it, for instance Mascott 150-6.5T for the version with about 150 hp and a 6.5-tonne gross weight; the dXi/dCi engines came from the joint development with Iveco.

The Mascott occupied the segment between the light Master and Renault's heavy truck ranges and competed there with the closely related Iveco Daily as well as the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Volkswagen LT; it was common above all as a chassis for municipal, tradesman and box-body conversions.
On used examples, clutch and gearbox condition, rust on the chassis frame and wheel arches, the condition of the body (tipper, box, flatbed) and, on the dCi engines, injectors and turbocharger all count; parts run through the Renault Trucks network and partly through Iveco.
