The Kangoo arrived in 1997 and uses the technical base of the Renault Clio II; it has since been offered as a passenger estate and, under the Kangoo Express name, as a small panel van for trades and delivery services. The early models in the register still carry the naturally aspirated 1.9D diesel and the 1.9DTI turbodiesel designations; from the early 2000s the 1.5-litre DCi engine (K9K) replaced these and became the range's defining powertrain, with a small-volume raised 4x4 version also produced. A second generation followed in 2008 and a third in 2021, also offered as the fully electric Kangoo E-Tech.

On used examples, important points are the timing-belt change interval on the DCi engines, rust on the sliding-door tracks and floor pan, the clutch on high-mileage delivery vehicles, the electronics of the locking systems, and, on 4x4 versions, the condition of the additional transfer unit and the raised suspension.
