Renault V 73 Junior (1964-1968): air-cooled two-cylinder narrow-track tractor with 14.7 kW output and a width of only 820 mm from the Junior series
The V 73 Junior from the Junior series was built from June 1964 to September 1968 and is among the smallest and narrowest tractors in Renault's programme of the time, built for specialist crops with narrow row spacing.

The air-cooled two-cylinder engine displaces 1,400 cm³ and delivers 14.7 kW at 2,000 rpm, equivalent to 20 horsepower. At only 820 mm wide and with a wheelbase of 1,610 mm and a top speed of 25 km/h, the V 73 Junior was one of the narrowest tractors in its power class, built for row crops such as vineyards or vegetable growing with especially tight lanes.
Tractors under a metre wide had to be specially engineered in the 1960s, since standard axles and tyres could not accommodate such widths; narrow special tyres and a tightly built frame were used instead. The air-cooled design saved additional space in the cramped build that would otherwise have been needed for a radiator and water lines.
When buying a used V 73 Junior, the availability of the narrow special tyres is a central concern, since these are today only obtainable new to a limited extent. The cooling airflow of the two-cylinder engine and the condition of the steering should also be checked, as tight turning manoeuvres in row crops place above-average strain on the steering linkage of these narrow-track tractors.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
