Plymouth – other models: the collective page of vehicles outside the named ranges, from the 1930s PT pickups through the Trail Duster off-roader to the Voyager van, 3,299 to 5,900 cc, six- and eight-cylinder engines

This page gathers the Plymouth vehicles the register could not assign to a named range – from the late-1930s PT pickups through the Trail Duster off-roader to the Voyager van. Plymouth was founded in 1928 by Walter P. Chrysler as the Chrysler group's low-priced entry brand and was discontinued in 2001. The PT range (Plymouth Truck) of 1937 to 1941 was the brand's first independent pickup; the Trail Duster of 1974 to 1981 was the sister model of the Dodge Ramcharger based on the D-Series pickup, with a removable hardtop; the Voyager arrived in 1984 as one of the first modern minivans on the Chrysler group's S platform and was sold in Europe in parallel as both a Chrysler and a Plymouth, with Voyager Sport denoting an upper equipment line.

The register lists here 7 versions with six- and eight-cylinder engines of 3,299 to 5,900 cc, unladen weights from 1,330 to 2,230 kg, gross weights from 1,720 to 2,903 kg and widths from 1,900 to 2,080 mm.

The Trail Duster served the then-young segment of full-size off-roaders in the 1970s alongside the Chevrolet Blazer and Ford Bronco; the Voyager was for more than two decades one of North America's best-selling minivans and, together with the near-identical Dodge Caravan, shaped the segment decisively. The early PT pickups, by contrast, remained a marginal presence next to the identical Dodge models.

On used examples, frame and body condition and parts availability through Dodge equivalents count on the PT pickups, rust on wings and sills, transfer case and axles on the Trail Duster, automatic transmission, head gaskets on the V6 engines and corrosion on sliding doors and floor pans on the Voyager; parts run mainly through the Chrysler/Dodge network.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
