Opel Monterey – light-commercial registration of the badge-engineered Isuzu Trooper from the GM-Isuzu tie-up, with the 4JG2 turbodiesel, 6VD1 V6 petrol and 4JX1-TC, 84 kW, around 1.9 to 2.1 tonnes unladen
This page gathers the Opel Monterey versions the register carries as a light commercial vehicle. The Monterey shares its body with the Isuzu Trooper and grew out of the cooperation between General Motors and Isuzu; in Britain it was sold as the Vauxhall Monterey. The range was in the programme through the 1990s. The model names of the versions listed here name the engines directly: the 3.1-litre 4JG2 turbodiesel, the 3.2-litre 6VD1 V6 petrol engine and the later common-rail 4JX1-TC.

The register lists here 8 versions with 84 kW from four- to six-cylinders of 2,999 to 3,165 cm³, unladen weights from 1,888 to 2,080 kg, a gross weight of 2,295 to 2,600 kg, lengths from 4,270 to 4,550 mm and widths from 1,750 to 1,840 mm.
The Monterey was Opel's answer to the large off-road SUVs of the 1990s and targeted buyers looking for a rugged four-wheel-drive vehicle with towing capacity; its registration as a commercial vehicle also made it attractive to business owners. In Japan and North America the same design was sold as the Isuzu Trooper and Acura SLX.
On used examples, the injection pump and glow-plug system matter on the 4JG2 turbodiesel, the timing chain and cooling system on the 6VD1 petrol engine, rust and worn universal joints on the ladder frame and axles, and the door shuts on the body; parts run through the Isuzu and Opel networks.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
