Oliver / White 65 series – large six-cylinder tractors after the takeover by White: 1865 and 1870, 72.8 kW, 6,974 to 7,391 cm³, petrol, LPG or diesel options
In 1960 the White Motor Corporation took over the tractor maker Oliver of Charles City, Iowa. Under the new owner the 65 series of large six-cylinder tractors emerged, the 1865 and 1870, whose engines ran on petrol, LPG or diesel depending on version. The three fuel variants offered reflected the differing energy prices and availability across North America's various sales regions.

The register lists here 2 versions with 72.8 kW from six-cylinder engines of 6,974 to 7,391 cm³, an unladen weight of 4,686 to 5,470 kg, a length of 4,458 mm, a width of 2,436 mm, a height of 2,172 mm and a rated speed of 1,800 rpm.
Tractors of this size and fuel variety targeted large arable farms in North America in the late 1960s, where petrol, LPG or diesel power was chosen depending on region and fuel price. As flagship models of the Oliver line-up, they stood at the end of the independent Oliver era before the brand was finally discontinued in 1976.
Buyers of used units should first establish which of the three fuel variants is fitted, as ignition, carburettor or injection system each demand different checks; also check the gearbox, hydraulics and rust on the frame. Since the Oliver brand ended in 1976, spares run mostly through collectors and dealers specialising in classic tractors. The inspection checklist should also include the water pump, radiator and the condition of the large rear tyres.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
