Nissan Pick Up (UP) – compact pickup before the Navara era: four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines, 98kW, unladen weight 1.47 to 2 tonnes, also as King Cab and 4x4
Before the Navara name arrived in 1997, Nissan marketed its compact pickups in Europe simply as Pick Up; UP is the register's shorthand for this range. It covered the standard cab, the extended King Cab and four-wheel-drive versions (4X4), plus the 2.5 TD and 2.5 TDI diesel variants. Nissan was founded in 1933 in Yokohama; the compact-pickup line traces back to the 720 series of the early 1980s, from which the models covered here developed.

The register lists 5 versions at 98kW, displacements from 2,289 to 2,488cc across four cylinders, unladen weights from 1,471 to 2,010kg, gross vehicle weights from 2,181 to 2,860kg, a length of 5,090mm and widths from 1,700 to 2,020mm.
The Pick Up competed in the compact segment with the Toyota Hilux and Mitsubishi L200 and was valued in Europe mainly as a rugged utility vehicle for agriculture, trades and light off-road work. Beyond commercial use, the Pick Up also found a following as a recreational and expedition vehicle, since its simple, rugged construction made repairs away from paved roads easier.
Buying used, check the ladder frame for rust, the transfer case and driveline coupling on 4X4 versions, the injection pump and turbocharger of the diesel engines, the leaf springs and load bed, and the clutch; spare parts are available through the Nissan network and independent pickup specialists. On petrol versions, the condition of the carburettor or injection system and the exhaust system are also worth checking.
