Nissan Navara – the pick-up range with King Cab and Double Cab: YD25 common-rail diesel (dCi), 61 to 140 kW from 2.3 to 2.5-litre engines, switchable four-wheel drive

Navara is the international name of the Nissan pick-up sold in North America and Japan as the Frontier. The range replaced its predecessor in 1997 with the D22 generation, the D40 followed in 2004 with its own design related to the Pathfinder, and since 2014 the third generation has carried the designation D23 or NP300. On bodywork the register distinguishes the King Cab with an extended single cab and occasional seats from the Double Cab with a full double cab, plus simple and switchable four-wheel-drive versions (4WD). The diesel has carried the dCi designation since the D40 generation – the common-rail technology comes from the Renault-Nissan Alliance, even though the engine itself, the YD25DDTi, is a Nissan design.

The register lists here 42 versions with 61 to 140 kW from four-cylinders of 2,298 to 2,500 cm³, unladen weights from 1,800 to 2,315 kg, gross weights from 2,570 to 3,350 kg, lengths from 4,990 to 5,401 mm and widths from 1,690 to 1,950 mm.

In Europe the Navara belongs to the one-tonne pick-up class alongside the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi L200 and VW Amarok, and for a time was built for the European market at Nissan's plant in Barcelona, Spain; in Britain, Australia and parts of Africa it is among the best-selling commercial vehicles of its class.

On used examples, rust on the frame, load bed and wings, the condition of the clutch and four-wheel-drive train, common-rail injection with injectors and turbocharger, brakes and the load-bed tarpaulin all count; parts run through the dense Nissan network and the aftermarket.
