For decades the King Cab was the compromise model between a pure working vehicle and a family-friendly leisure pickup, competing with comparable extended cabs from the Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi L200 and Ford Ranger. In Europe the range was used both commercially as a tradesman's and site vehicle and privately, while in many markets outside Europe it remains a common working vehicle to this day.

On used examples it is worth checking the frame for corrosion, especially around the leaf springs and tow hitch, as well as load bed wear and cab roof sealing. The diesel engines should be checked for turbocharger, injection pump and timing chain condition, and four-wheel-drive versions additionally for the transfer case and free-wheeling hubs. Spare parts are readily available through the Nissan dealer network and a wide range of aftermarket parts for the D21/D22 range.
