New Holland Boomer 30 to Boomer 54D – the compact tractors from Japan in blue: the number as hp class, 3040 to 3050 as first generation, CVT and HT for stepless and hydrostatic transmissions, D for Deluxe

The Boomer is New Holland's compact tractor – the continuation of the partnership with Shibaura of Matsumoto in Japan that Ford began in 1973 and that runs through the 1000, 10, 20 and TC ranges to this day. The type logic: the number gives the hp class – Boomer 30 about 30 hp, Boomer 40 40 hp, Boomer 50 50 hp – the four-digit types 3040, 3045 and 3050 are the first Boomer generation from 2008, in which the first digits give the range and the last the power, with the stepless EasyDrive transmission; the suffixes CVT and HT mark the stepless and the hydrostatic transmission, D the Deluxe equipment with cab and comfort, 46D and 54D the Deluxe models with 46 and 54 hp. The engines are Shibaura three- and four-cylinders and the FPT R753 of 1.8 to 2.5 litres to emission stage IV.

The register lists 12 versions with 21 to 37.3 kW from three- and four-cylinders of 1,758 to 2,505 cm³, PTO outputs from 36 to 42 hp on the recorded models, unladen weights from 1,354 to 1,945 kg, gross weights from 2,508 to 3,200 kg, lengths from 3,245 to 3,620 mm and widths from 1,333 to 2,212 mm.

In North America and Europe the Boomer competes with Kubota, John Deere 3 series, Kioti and Iseki; its argument is the New Holland network that carries the compact tractor alongside the big ranges.

On used tractors, operating hours, engine condition, hydrostat or CVT, four-wheel-drive clutch, front loader and mower PTO, tyres (turf or agricultural) and parts supply through New Holland count.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
