The Munktell MST 901 is a Swedish combine harvester built from 1956-1960. Munktell, later part of Bolinder-Munktell, produced it in Sweden. It was laid out somewhat smaller than the brand's earlier combines; its threshing drum was narrower than on the larger machines.
The engine is a six-cylinder Volvo diesel producing 67 PS (50 kW). Special features of the Bolinder-Munktell combines included an endless unloading reel at the grain tank, a water-cooled exhaust pipe and a bagging platform.
The MST 901 stands for the period when self-propelled machines began to replace pulled combines in Scandinavia as well. For collectors it is a rare piece of Swedish postwar farm machinery. That its engine comes from Volvo fits the machine's Swedish origin: engine, frame and threshing unit all came from domestic industry.
Munktells MST 901 – combine harvester built in Sweden between 1956 and 1960 with a Volvo diesel engine, 67 hp / 50 kW, from the Bolinder-Munktell tradition
Munktells, in full Bolinder-Munktell, was a Swedish farm machinery manufacturer whose technology later became part of the Volvo group; this is reflected in the Volvo-branded engine fitted here. The MST 901 was built in Sweden between 1956 and 1960.

The MST 901 is powered by a Volvo diesel engine rated at 67 hp, or 50 kW. For a self-propelled combine of that era, this was a solid but not exceptionally high output, matching the farm sizes typical of Swedish agriculture at the time.
Combines of this power class from the late 1950s marked, in Scandinavia, the shift from towed harvesting equipment to self-propelled combines that united cutting and threshing in a single machine. Given the shorter harvest windows of Nordic conditions, this shift represented a significant efficiency gain.
Buying a used MST 901 today effectively means buying a historic machine, assessed differently from current combines: what matters is the preservation of the Volvo engine, corrosion on the bodywork and chassis, and the originality of the threshing system and drivetrains, since parts for these model years are barely produced new any more. Brake and steering function should also be carefully checked before any return to operation, given the machine's age, along with the wiring for brittle, ageing insulation.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
