The register lists 192 versions with engine outputs of 50 to 133 kW, displacements of 548 to 4,701 cm³, three to eight cylinders, unladen weights of 661 to 3,340 kg and gross vehicle weights of 1,110 to 3,500 kg; the small displacement at the lower end corresponds to Japan's kei-car class, formerly limited to 550 cm³.

This range from kei car to pick-up and SUV shows how technically different the vehicles registered as Class N1 are — all they share is a gross vehicle weight up to 3.5 tonnes, not construction or purpose; for each model family its own competitors apply, such as the Toyota Hilux for the L200 or the Ford Transit Courier for smaller commercial vehicles.

On a used example, depending on the model family, different points matter: on the L200 and Pajero the condition of the all-wheel drive and transfer box, on the Canter corrosion on the chassis and load bed, on the Colt, ASX and Eclipse Cross the usual wear points of clutch, brakes and suspension, and throughout the parts supply organised through Mitsubishi dealer workshops.
