The FARMALL-SUPER series from McCormick includes the SUPER-C. Production: 1951–1954. The engine delivers 24.8 hp (18.2 kW), has 4 cylinders, with a displacement of 2,011 cm³. Torque is 157 Nm. Rated speed is 1,650 rpm. The machine is 3,124 mm long, 2,045 mm wide and 1,899 mm high. The unladen weight is 1,315 kg. The wheelbase measures 2,089 mm. Ground clearance is 594 mm. Top speed is 17 km/h. The tank holds 41.6 litres. Transmission: 4 V/1 R. The engine is water-cooled. Tyres: front 5.00 x 15, rear 10 x 36. The fuel is Destillat/Kerosin/Benzin. The bore measures 79.38 mm. The stroke is 101.6 mm. Maximum torque is reached at 1,250 rpm. Construction: semi-frame construction. The gearbox offers 4 forward gears. There are also 1 reverse gears. Around 98.310 units were built. The FARMALL-SUPER-BAUREIHE series covers 8 models. Rated output within it ranges from 19 to 47 hp; the SUPER-C sits in the lower part of that range with 24.8 hp. Its immediate neighbours are the SUPER A-1/AV-1 below it with 21 hp and the SUPER-H/HV above it with 32 hp. Unladen weight within it ranges from 1,082 to 2,488 kg; here the SUPER-C sits in the lower part of that range with 1,315 kg. 381 McCormick models across 40 series are on record.

McCormick Farmall Super range A to MD-TA – International Harvester's post-war classics, four-cylinders of 1.9 to 4.3 litres, distillate, petrol and diesel versions

International Harvester sold its Farmall tractors in many export markets under the McCormick brand, named after company founder Cyrus McCormick. The Super range replaced the older letter models A, C, H and M from 1953/54, bringing improvements such as live PTO and, on the Super M-TA, the Torque Amplifier, a two-step underdrive that could be shifted under load. The designations follow the letter logic of their predecessors: A/AV, C, H/HV and M/MV mark the size class, V the narrow-track Vineyard version, and MD and MDV the diesel variant of the M.

The register lists 8 versions with 14 to 34.6 kW from four-cylinders of 1,853 to 4,324 cm³, torque from 157 to 495 Nm, unladen weights from 1,082 to 2,488 kg, lengths from 2,715 to 3,683 mm and widths from 1,419 to 2,134 mm, at rated speeds of 1,400 to 1,650 rpm.

With models from the light Super A to the heavy Super M-TA, the Super range covered almost the entire power spectrum of agricultural tractors of its day and, alongside Ford, Allis-Chalmers and Oliver, was one of the defining ranges of post-war farming in North America and Europe. The fuel variety of distillate/kerosene, petrol and diesel reflects farm equipment's transition to diesel engines in those years.

On used Super models, the condition of the engine and carburettor or injection pump depending on fuel type counts, along with the condition of the clutch and, on the M-TA, the Torque Amplifier, the tightness of the hydraulics, the condition of the front axle and steering, and rust on mudguards and sheet metal. Parts are well available through the international collector market for IH and McCormick Farmall classics.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
