MAN ETGX 20.449

The ETGX 20.449 recorded here dates from 2025 and is among the first vehicles of this series in practical service. Unlike a diesel vehicle, an electric lorry of this class does away with the classic combination of combustion engine and multi-speed gearbox in favour of an electric drivetrain with a battery pack.

Vehicles in this class fall under the category of heavy lorries above 12 tonnes and, like their diesel counterparts, are subject to the EU's 90 km/h speed limit. The battery-electric drivetrain is aimed chiefly at regional and distribution transport, where fixed daily routes allow charging infrastructure to be planned reliably. Such vehicles are typically used on fixed routes with a depot base, where charging can take place overnight.

When buying such an early example of an electric lorry of this type, the condition of the battery and its remaining charge capacity matter most, checkable via the charge-cycle counter and a diagnostic check at a service partner. Equally important are the brakes and regenerative braking, which work more closely together in an electric drivetrain than in a classic diesel vehicle.
