Link-Belt truck cranes HTC and HTT – telescopic cranes on truck chassis from Lexington: the type logic HTC-8640 to HTC-86110, HTT for Truck Terrain, 161 to 358 kW
The truck-mounted crane is the American answer to the European all-terrain crane: a telescopic crane whose carrier is a road chassis with a truck cab, fast on the highway and cheaper than an all-wheel-drive rough-terrain crane. Link-Belt of Lexington, Kentucky, owned by Sumitomo since 1986, lists this class as HTC – Hydraulic Truck Crane. The type logic: on the older models (HTC-840, HTC-860, HTC-1040, HTC-1060, HTC-1170) the last two digits after the hyphen give the capacity in US tons, the digits before them the series; on the 86 models (HTC-8640 to HTC-86110) the 86 stands for the series and the final number for the capacity – 40, 60, 65, 70, 75, 90, 100 and 110 US tons – the HTC-3140 is the 140-tonner, the HTC-11100 the 100-tonner of a newer series. LB stands for the long-boom version, SL for a special boom, Series II for a revision, and HTT for Truck Terrain – truck chassis with all-wheel drive and steering as an intermediate step to the all-terrain crane.

The register lists 27 versions with 161.1 to 357.9 kW from six-cylinders of 5,211 to 15,001 cm³ – Cummins QSM and QSX15 in the big models – torque from 597 to 2,102 Nm at 1,700 to 2,800 rpm and service weights from 20,695 to 63,500 kg.
Truck cranes are the standard cranes of builders' yards, steel erection and precast assembly in North America because they drive from site to site without special transport; in Europe they are rare because of axle-load limits.
On used cranes, operating hours separated into travel and crane duty, the condition of telescopic boom, slew ring, outriggers and ropes, the truck chassis with brakes and suspension and the inspection history are what count.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
