Landini R series – diesel tractors from Fabbrico in Special and Super-Special trim: three- and four-cylinders, 38 to 56 kW, part of the Argo Group since 1994
Landini has built tractors in Fabbrico near Reggio Emilia since 1884 and has belonged to the Italian Argo Group since 1994, which alongside Landini also runs McCormick and Valpadana. The R name goes back to the 1950s at Landini and was later reused for further ranges. The versions listed here, the R 8000 Special, R 8000 Super-Special and R-5000 Special, are three- and four-cylinder diesels, with Special and Super-Special marking equipment levels that differ mainly in power and fittings.

The register lists here 3 versions with 38.2 to 55.9 kW from three- to four-cylinders of 2,498 to 4,067 cm³ displacement. Unladen weights range from 1,890 to 2,720 kg, lengths from 3,220 to 3,680 mm, widths from 1,800 to 1,900 mm and heights from 1,560 to 1,760 mm at rated speeds of 2,100 to 2,250 rpm.
As mid-power standard farm tractors the R models competed with the contemporaneous Fiat and Same ranges, with which they shared technology and suppliers; on the Italian and eastern European markets Landini was in this class one of the familiar brands for the family farm.
On a used example, clutch and mechanical gearbox condition, rust on mudguards and bonnet, tightness of hydraulics and PTO, and smooth engine running under full load count; parts for the three- and four-cylinder diesels run through the Landini and Argo network and independent farm-machinery dealers.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
