Kumiai is the trade name under which small tractors built in Japan by Mitsubishi Agricultural Machinery were sold through farming cooperatives – the Japanese word kumiai means cooperative or association. Cooperatives bought the tractors in bulk and passed them on under their own Kumiai badge to member farms, a distribution model common for farm machinery in Japan. The models on this page range from the MT series (MT1401D to MT2801D) to the ST series (ST1420 to ST3240), with D marking the diesel version.

As compact diesel small tractors under 25 kW, the Kumiai models were designed for small-scale Japanese rice and vegetable growing. In the 1980s and 1990s, many Japanese small tractors of this power class reached North America and Europe as so-called grey imports outside the official distribution channels, where they are valued by hobby farmers and municipalities for their rugged Mitsubishi engineering and favourable price.
On used Kumiai models, operating hours and the condition of the Mitsubishi diesel count, along with the condition of clutch and gearbox, the tightness of the hydraulics, and corrosion on sheet metal and attachment parts, encouraged by use in wet rice cultivation. Parts usually run through Mitsubishi farm-equipment dealers or suppliers specialising in grey imports.
