Kögel is today one of Europe's big semi-trailer builders, but in the 1950s the company from Burtenbach in Swabia also built tractors – like dozens of vehicle and farm-machinery businesses of the post-war period that served the demand of the small farms with tractors from bought-in components before the big makers pushed the small series out in the 1960s. The type logic: K marks the brand, the number the hp class – K 15 about 15 hp, K 22 22 hp, K 28 28 hp, K 36 36 hp, K 45 about 45 hp – KM 40 a variant of the K 36 by factory logic. The engines are bought-in diesels with one cylinder in the smallest, two and three cylinders in the medium and four cylinders in the largest model, 1.2 to 3.5 litres, as MWM, Deutz and Hatz supplied to the small makers.
