Kobelco's midi excavators carry the short-tail philosophy of the minis into the 5 to 9 tonne class: SK55SR, SK70SR, SK75SR and SK80MSR carry the SR for Short Radius, the SK85CS and the 80CS models the CS for Compact Swing, a version with an even tighter swing circle. The number gives the weight class in hundreds of kilograms, ACERA was the brand name of the 2000s in North America, -2, -3, -5 and -6E are generations, E the European version. The SK140SRLC, SK230SRLC and SK270SRLC in the register are short-tail excavators of the 14 to 27 tonne class, the ED160 Blade Runner a 16-tonner with dozer blade that Kobelco developed for earthworks and sewer work without a second machine – the sorting placed them here.

The register lists 15 versions; the midis run from 29.3 to about 45 kW from four-cylinders of 2,180 to 3,300 cm³ – Isuzu 4LE2 and 4JB1, Yanmar 4TNV88 – the big models up to 123.8 kW with Isuzu 4JJ1 and Hino J05E; operating weights run from 4,660 to 27,200 kg.
Kobelco builds the midis at its Ogaki plant; the Compact Swing layout is the answer to Japanese urban sites where an excavator must work within one traffic lane, and it became the rental standard in Europe.
