Kempf SKM – tipper semi-trailers from the German maker in steel and aluminium construction: agricultural and construction haulage, unladen weight 5,100 to 11,200 kg, gross weight up to 45,000 kg

Kempf is a German tipper manufacturer whose vehicles serve both agricultural and construction/recycling transport, with core markets in Germany and Eastern Europe. The SKM range comprises tipper semi-trailers in steel or aluminium construction with two to three axles, including models with a tipping-body volume of around 50 m³. As class O4 trailers they require air brakes with ABS or EBS and are subject to recurring roadworthiness testing; the semi-trailer tractor requires a category CE licence.

The register lists 14 versions here with unladen weights from 5,100 to 11,200 kg and gross weights from 24,000 to 45,000 kg; lengths run from 8,650 to 14,040 mm, widths from 2,500 to 2,550 mm.

With its aluminium and steel construction, the SKM range covers both light grain and bulk-goods transport in agriculture and heavy construction and earth-moving transport, positioning Kempf as a supplier for a broad customer base between farming and the building trade.

On used SKM semi-trailers, check the condition of the tipping body – dents and cracks especially on aluminium –, the function of the tipping cylinder and tailgate, the brakes and axles, and on lift-axle versions their lifting mechanism; since the range exists in both steel and aluminium variants, the material also affects payload and corrosion behaviour. On the three-axle versions, a tridem axle group spreads the load more evenly than on the two-axle variants, which reduces tyre wear especially with frequent loading and unloading in the field.

What to check before buying

  • Search the frame and welds at the axle mounts — that is where cracks start.
  • Check the brakes and the last inspection in the papers.
  • Work the gross weight against the towing vehicle before buying.
  • Compare the chassis number with the papers.
  • Look at the floor, cover or body from the inside — rust does not show from outside.
