John Deere 6R (from 2021) – the Mannheim premium range with new nomenclature: 6R 110 to 6R 250, the number as rated hp, four- and six-cylinder PowerTech of 4.5 and 6.8 litres, AutoPowr and CommandPro, 130 to 222 kW

The 6R of 2021 is the fourth generation of the range with which John Deere has named the premium line of its mid-range from Mannheim since 2011 – and the first with the new nomenclature that puts the power after the code with a space: 6R 110 instead of 6110R. The type logic: 6 marks the series, R the premium line as against 6M, the number the rated power in hp – 6R 110 and 6R 150 the four-cylinders of 4.5 litres, 6R 165 to 6R 250 the six-cylinders of 6.8 litres, 6R 260 as a short six-cylinder on the four-cylinder frame – the engines are Deere's PowerTech range to emission stage V, with intelligent power management that releases up to 40 hp extra for PTO and transport work. The transmissions are AutoPowr (stepless), DirectDrive (dual clutch) and AutoQuad, operated through the CommandPro lever and the fourth-generation CommandCenter; the cab is the largest of the class with suspended front axle and cab suspension.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
