John Deere's forwarders come from Joensuu in eastern Finland – the plant of Timberjack, the Finnish-Canadian forestry-machine maker Deere took over in 2000 and continued under its own name from 2005; the D range in the register is the first generation that ran in Deere green. The forwarder is the machine of the cut-to-length method: it picks up the logs cut to length by the harvester with its crane, carries them out of the stand on its bunk and lays them down at the forest road. The type logic: the number orders the load-capacity class in ascending order – 810 about 9 t for thinning, 1010 about 11 t, 1110 12 t, 1410 14 t, 1710 about 17 t for final felling – D the generation of the 2000s, Four-Wheel and Six-Wheel the versions with four or six wheels, Short Frame and Long Frame the frame lengths for short or long timber. The engines are Deere's own: the four-cylinder 4045 of 4.5 litres in the small, the six-cylinders 6068 and 6081 of 6.8 and 8.1 litres in the big models, at 2,000 rpm.
