Isuzu H-Series – Class 6, 7 and 8 Trucks from the GM Partnership

Isuzu's H-Series comprises cab-over-engine trucks in the US weight classes 6, 7 and 8, developed as part of the commercial-vehicle partnership between Isuzu and General Motors. In 2003, Isuzu launched the H-Series based on the GMT560 chassis from the 6500/7500 range; the H6500 and H7500 models were powered by the 7.8-litre six-cylinder Duramax diesel engine, also used in their badge-engineered sister models. Those sister models were sold by General Motors as the Chevrolet Kodiak and GMC TopKick and built at the Janesville Assembly plant. Listed in the register: the H-Series in classes 6, 7 and 8.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
