International IC 3 S 530 Schoolbus – American school bus chassis of EU class N3: eight-cylinder engine with 7,300 cc displacement, 13,517 kg gross weight and 7,000 mm wheelbase
International is the commercial-vehicle brand of the American group Navistar, which grew out of International Harvester. The company's school bus manufacturing operates under the name IC Bus, building the conventional, front-engined school buses typical of North America on its own chassis. The IC 3 S 530 belongs to this range and is designed for the legally regulated transport of schoolchildren in the United States and Canada.

For the IC 3 S 530 the register lists an eight-cylinder engine with a displacement of 7,300 cc. The vehicle is 11,850 mm long, 2,500 mm wide and has a wheelbase of 7,000 mm. Kerb weight is 8,629 kg, gross vehicle weight 13,517 kg. Six wheels carry the body, split between a steered front axle and a driven rear axle with dual wheels.
At more than 12 tonnes gross weight, the bus would fall into EU vehicle class N3 for heavy commercial vehicles, even though it was built for the North American rather than the European market. The design is marked by the long, forward-projecting bonnet with the engine ahead of the front axle, which frees the entire rear body as one continuous passenger compartment with bench seating. Boarding and alighting take place through the wide door behind the front axle, secured by a folding stop sign.
When buying a used example, check for rust on the frame and wheel arches, the condition of the brake system on a vehicle of this weight, and the seals of doors and windows on the passenger body. The eight-cylinder diesel engine calls for a check of the injection system and cooling, while the transmission, worked hard in daily school-run duty, needs a check of oil level and shift behaviour. Spare parts for chassis and drivetrain run through the International or IC Bus dealer network, body parts through specialist suppliers for school buses.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
