International Harvester – other models: the collective page for transporters outside the named series, from R- and S-series pickups to the Metro delivery van, 3,600 to 5,700 cc, six to eight cylinders

International Harvester (IH), based in Chicago, was formed in 1902 from the merger of McCormick Harvesting and Deering Harvester and built light commercial vehicles for the North American market alongside its tractors and farm machinery. This page gathers transporters that fall outside any named series: R- and S-series pickups from the 1950s, the A-series with designations from A100 to A120, and the Metro van, a closed-body delivery vehicle used from the 1930s into the 1970s by bakeries, laundries and dairies. Letter-number combinations such as R100 or S-110 denoted series and payload class at IH, while the CREWCAB suffix marks a four-door double cab.

The register lists six versions with 3,600 to 5,700 cc of displacement across six to eight cylinders, kerb weights from 1,680 to 1,965 kg and gross vehicle weights from 2,321 to 2,909 kg, at a body width of 1,900 to 2,000 mm.

IH's transporters competed directly with the light commercial vehicles of Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge and served mainly commercial delivery work and farm use across the United States. International Harvester's withdrawal from the light-vehicle business in the mid-1970s ended production of these series, while its truck division continued as Navistar.

Buying used, the main checks are rust on the frame, running boards and cab corners, the condition of the radiator and water pump on the large-displacement inline engines, and working drum brakes. Parts for IH-specific drivetrains and body panels are now found mainly through specialist clubs and vintage dealers in North America.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
