International Farmall 30-series – the compact 130 and 230 from Chicago and Rock Island: four-cylinder petrol, 15.7 to 19.3 kW, 2,011 cm³
Farmall was the tractor brand of the US group International Harvester, which built its farm machinery at plants in Chicago and Rock Island, Illinois. The 30-series with the 130 and 230 types formed the lower end of the post-war numbering: the digit before the zero denotes the size within the Farmall family, and the 30 class covered compact, narrow-tread all-purpose tractors for row crops. Both types share the same four-cylinder carburettor engine.

The register lists here 2 versions with 15.7 to 19.3 kW from four-cylinder engines of 2,011 cm³ displacement and 148 to 155 Nm of torque, with unladen weights from 1,202 to 1,406 kg, lengths from 2,718 to 3,124 mm, widths from 1,422 to 2,032 mm and heights from 1,651 to 1,899 mm.
The compact Farmall 30-series types occupied the niche of smaller family farms and specialty crops such as vegetables and tobacco in the United States, where the narrow tread gave an advantage between rows. They competed directly with comparable models from John Deere and Ford of the same period.
When buying these petrol tractors, check the condition of the carburettor and ignition system, rust on mudguards and toolboxes, the condition of the steering gear and front axle, and the tightness of the belt pulley and PTO. Spares come through dealers specialising in Farmall in the United States and Europe.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
