The Ingersoll 6018 is a machine built by Ingersoll. The engine delivers 18 hp (13 kW). The engine comes from Kohler. The engine is air-cooled. The model was built in USA. The fuel is Gas. Rated output across the Ingersoll range ranges from 8 to 25 hp; the 6018 sits in the middle of that range with 18 hp. Its immediate neighbours are the 3016 hydriv below it with 16 hp and the 4120 above it with 20 hp. Rated output across the Ingersoll range ranges from 7 to 19 kW; here the 6018 sits in the middle of that range with 13 kW. 70 Ingersoll models across 2 series are on record.

Ingersoll – other models: American garden and lawn tractors succeeding Case, from the YT through the 3000 and 4000 to the 7000 series, 7 to 19 kW, Briggs & Stratton, Onan, Kohler and Perkins engines

This page gathers the Ingersoll tractors the register could not assign to a named range – small and mid-size garden and lawn tractors from Winneconne, Wisconsin. The Ingersoll Equipment Company was formed in 1979 when J. I. Case sold its garden-tractor plant in Winneconne; the new firm took over the design and manufacture of the former Case garden tractors and continued building them under its own name and later also for other trade brands. The models range from simple belt-drive lawn tractors to hydrostatic-drive versions, plus compact tractors with a PTO and three-point hitch for smallholding and grounds work. The engines come almost entirely from American small-engine makers: Briggs & Stratton and Kohler supply air-cooled petrol engines, Onan the larger twin-cylinders, and a single model runs a Perkins diesel.

The register lists here 23 versions with 7 to 19 kW, that is 8 to 25 hp; apart from one diesel model, all run on petrol engines.

Ingersoll represents the lower and mid-range class of North American garden and lawn tractors, a market segment shaped as much by home-improvement chains as by the big makers John Deere, Cub Cadet and Simplicity. The Case ancestry of the design still shows in the chassis, engine layout and hitch geometry; the brand changed owners several times in the following decades but stayed concentrated on its original Wisconsin plant.

On a used purchase, the older belt-drive models call for checking the V-belt and clutch disc, the hydrostatic models the condition of pump and motor and any oil leaks at the hose fittings. Rust on the chassis and mudguards, the condition of the mower deck and attachments, and the running hours of the Briggs & Stratton or Kohler engines (valve clearance, carburettor) are the usual checkpoints; parts are available through the American small-engine and lawn-tractor networks, in Europe only to a limited extent.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
