Hyundai's wheeled excavators are the wheeled versions of the Robex range with which Hyundai Heavy Industries of Ulsan has built excavators since the 1980s – at first with licensed technology, since the 1990s with its own designs that made the group one of the world's ten largest excavator makers. The type logic: R stands for Robex, the number gives the weight class in hundreds of kilograms – R55W about 5.5 t, R140W 14 t, R170W 17 t, R200W 20 t – W for Wheeled, and the suffixes -3, -7 and -7A for the generations of the 1990s and 2000s, -7A marking emission stage IIIA.
