Hitachi took over the articulated dump truck business from Euclid in the 1990s and continued it as Euclid-Hitachi, later fully under its own name. The AH range stands for 'Articulated Hauler', the model number giving roughly the payload class in tonnes – from the AH250D at around 25 t to the AH500D at around 50 t payload; the D marks the diesel version. The models are powered by Mercedes-Benz diesel engines of the OM family: the six-cylinder OM906LA in the smaller, the V-engines OM501LA and OM502LA in the larger machines.

In this segment Hitachi competes chiefly with Bell, Caterpillar, Volvo and Komatsu.
