Heinrich Lanz HR 2 (22/28-Raupe): tracked Bulldog tractor with multi-fuel single-cylinder engine, 16.1 kW and 3,330 kg from the years 1927 to 1929
Heinrich Lanz of Mannheim also brought its single-cylinder hot-bulb engines, sold under the "Bulldog" name, to market as the drive for tracked vehicles. The engine could run on varying fuels such as crude oil, benzole or paraffin, making it independent of any single fuel type.

The HR 2, designated 22/28-Raupe, is built on tracks rather than wheels and is powered by a water-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces 22 hp, or 16.1 kW, at 500 rpm. At a weight of 3,330 kg, a length of 3,180 mm, a height of 2,345 mm, a width of 1,900 mm and a wheelbase of 1,805 mm, the machine reaches a design top speed of 7.4 km/h.
A tracked chassis spreads the machine's weight over a larger contact area than wheels and so sank less into soft or boggy ground, an advantage when working difficult agricultural land. The low top speed was sufficient for pure pulling and ploughing work and was of no consequence in field operation. Its slow-turning single cylinder also tolerated long periods at partial load, useful during extended ploughing shifts.
When buying such a tracked tractor, the condition and tension of the track links and the wear on the rollers and drive wheels matter most, since replacements for these parts are now only available through specialist collectors. Also worth checking are the hot bulb and cylinder bore for wear, and the radiator and water pump for leaks.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
