Gurgel – other models: the collective page of Brazilian light vehicles outside the named ranges, with the G-15 and the X-12 as Cabriolet and TR, four-cylinder engine of 1,585 cm³, 830 to 1,160 kg kerb weight and 1
This page gathers the Gurgel vehicles the register could not assign to a named range: the G-15 and the X-12 in the Cabriolet and TR versions. Gurgel was a Brazilian maker from Rio Claro that built light off-road vehicles and buggies with plastic bodies between the 1970s and 1990s; the X-12, with its open body, was among the brand's best-known models.

The register lists here 4 versions with a displacement of 1,585 cm³ from four cylinders, kerb weights from 830 to 1,160 kg, gross weights from 1,300 to 1,885 kg and widths from 1,560 to 1,630 mm.
Gurgel vehicles such as the X-12 were widespread above all on the Brazilian home market, where simple, light and off-road-capable vehicles with plastic bodies occupied a niche between classic cars and heavy off-roaders; outside Brazil the brand remained largely unknown.
The four-cylinder engine in these versions comes from the air-cooled flat engine that Volkswagen do Brasil fitted in the Beetle and the Brasília, which Gurgel mounted at the rear of its plastic bodies, driving the rear wheels. Because the same engines and gearboxes were fitted for decades in millions of Brazilian VW models, the mechanical base is easier to source than Gurgel's own body panels and wear parts.
On a used Gurgel of these versions, the condition of the four-cylinder engine, cracks and ageing of the plastic body, the condition of running gear and brakes, and, on the open Cabriolet, the tightness of the roof all count; outside Brazil, spare parts are only available to a limited extent, mostly through enthusiasts and clubs.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
