Grove has belonged to Manitowoc since its acquisition in March 2002 for 271 million US dollars, yet still markets its rough-terrain, truck-mounted, all-terrain, industrial and Shuttlelift carry-deck lines under its own name. The number after the prefix in each of the four families roughly tracks lifting capacity or size, not model year.

Because compact carry-deck cranes sit alongside genuine truck cranes in this one bucket, comparing machines purely by model number is risky – an AP410 and a TD180 differ fundamentally in chassis, reach and application. According to the database, chassis weight across the group ranges from 2,549 to 87,808 kg, and engine power reaches up to 336 kW on the largest models – a spread that mirrors exactly this variety of crane classes.

When buying used, what matters most on telescopic cranes is the condition of the boom wear pads, the tightness of the telescoping cylinders, and a function test of every outrigger – leaks here lead to expensive repairs. Matching the serial number against the data plate and the last crane inspection also belongs in the check.
