GMC, the General Motors Truck Company, was formed in 1911/1912 from the merger of the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company and the Reliance Motor Car Company, and during the Second World War built with the CCKW the most numerous American military truck, known as the "Deuce and a Half". In the 1950s GMC's predecessor brand, Yellow Coach/GM, built the PD-4501 Scenicruiser touring coach for Greyhound, a double-deck long-distance vehicle. The Sierra pick-up range has shared its technical base with the Chevrolet Silverado since the 1980s, differing in trim and grille.
