Ginaf XD – the collective page of Ginaf's heavy multi-axle trucks from Veenendaal: six-cylinder engines, 10,837 to 12,902 cm³, gross weights of 25,650 to 49,000 kg, three- to five-axle versions

This collective page gathers Ginaf's XD range, heavy multi-axle trucks from the Dutch manufacturer based in Veenendaal. Ginaf began in 1948 as a truck dealership run by brothers Wuf and Adrie van Ginkel, who initially rebuilt and sold surplus US Army vehicles, and became an independent manufacturer in the early 1960s under the name Van Ginkels Automobiel Fabriek. The vehicles are still built on DAF cabs and components, complemented by Ginaf's own multi-axle chassis for heavy-haulage, construction and off-road work; in the XD range's type designation the first digit gives the number of axles, from the three-axle XD 3132 to the five-axle XD 5249.

The register lists 5 versions with displacements from 10,837 to 12,902 cm³ from six-cylinder engines throughout, unladen weights from 12,640 to 16,050 kg and gross weights from 25,650 to 49,000 kg; lengths range from 8,770 to 10,800 mm, widths from 2,540 to 2,550 mm.

Ginaf builds in a niche between series manufacturers and specialist vehicle builders, and specialises in heavy tippers, crane and heavy-haulage chassis and off-road multi-axle trucks for construction and the military; the close kinship with DAF eases servicing and parts supply despite the low production numbers.

On a used Ginaf XD, rust and cracks in the multi-axle frame, the condition of the transfer cases and differential locks, the mileage of the six-cylinder engine, and on tipper and crane bodies the condition of the hydraulics all count; chassis parts run through DAF, body-specific parts through the respective body builders.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
