Ginaf G6 – the collective page of heavy multi-axle trucks from Veenendaal on DAF cabs: six-cylinder engines of 10,837 to 12,902 cm³, gross weights up to 50,000 kg

This collective page gathers the Ginaf G6 range, heavy multi-axle trucks from the Dutch manufacturer based in Veenendaal. Ginaf began in 1948 as a truck dealership run by brothers Wuf and Adrie van Ginkel, who initially rebuilt and sold surplus US Army vehicles such as the GMC Diamond, and became an independent manufacturer in the early 1960s under the name Van Ginkels Automobiel Fabriek (Ginaf). The vehicles are still built on DAF cabs and components, complemented by Ginaf's own multi-axle chassis for construction, heavy-haulage and off-road work; the G6 range's model list spans four-axle trucks such as the G6 4142 C to five-axle trucks such as the G6 5250.

The register lists 15 versions with displacements from 10,837 to 12,902 cm³ from six-cylinder engines throughout, unladen weights from 8,635 to 31,580 kg and gross weights from 23,400 to 50,000 kg; lengths range from 6,090 to 11,990 mm, width is a constant 2,550 mm.

Ginaf builds around 250 vehicles a year in a niche between series manufacturers and specialist vehicle builders, and specialises in heavy tippers, concrete-mixer and crane chassis and off-road multi-axle trucks for construction and the military; the kinship with DAF eases servicing and parts supply despite the low production numbers.

On a used Ginaf G6, rust and cracks in the multi-axle frame, the condition of the transfer cases and differential locks, the mileage of the six-cylinder engine, and on tipper and crane bodies the condition of the hydraulics all count; chassis parts run through DAF, body-specific parts through the respective body builders.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
