Gebrüder Holder E series: small single-cylinder diesel implement carriers from Metzingen, E 1100 and E 1300, 6.25 to 8.8 kW, around 150 kg unladen weight
The E series comes from Gebrüder Holder of Metzingen in Baden-Württemberg, the founding company of today's Holder group, which built small implement carriers and mini tractors for agriculture from the post-war years onward. The Holder brothers founded their company in 1888, initially as a metalworking shop, before turning to motorised implement carriers for agriculture from the 1930s. The E 1100 and E 1300 are light, single-cylinder-powered models for smaller plots and work with mounted implements.

The register lists 2 versions here with 6.25 to 8.8 kW from single-cylinder engines of 392 to 510 cm³, an unladen weight of 150 kg, a length of 1,900 mm, a width of 760 mm and a height of 1,150 mm at a rated speed of 3,000 to 3,600 rpm.
As light implement carriers, the E series was aimed at smaller farms and specialty crops that needed a manoeuvrable, single-cylinder-powered carrier for mounted implements, before Holder expanded its range with larger, multi-cylinder models. After the E series' success, Holder expanded its range with larger, multi-cylinder implement carriers for more demanding tasks.
When buying one of these small single-cylinder machines, attention should go to the condition of the engine and clutch, the tightness of the fuel lines, frame rust, and the function of the implement mount, as well as the function of the implement hydraulics, where fitted, and the integrity of the seat mount; spare parts for these early Holder models are now only available in limited supply through specialist dealers.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
