FS Lublin Żuk – the Polish light van from Lublin: type logic from A06 to GBL, 2,120cc four-cylinder engine, unladen weight 1,492 to 2,030 kg, width 1,760 to 1,900 mm

The Żuk was built from 1959 at the Polish commercial-vehicle plant in Lublin as a light van for freight and passenger transport and stayed in production until 1998 – one of the longest-running commercial-vehicle ranges of the former Eastern Bloc. The name means "beetle" in Polish and covered panel-van, flatbed and minibus bodies on a shared chassis from the start. The designations A 1507, A 15M, A06 and GBL held in the register mark individual versions across the model's long history. Throughout production a four-cylinder engine of 2,120cc powered the vehicles.

The register lists here 5 versions with a uniform displacement of 2,120cc from four cylinders, unladen weights from 1,492 to 2,030 kg, gross vehicle weights from 2,434 to 2,500 kg and widths from 1,760 to 1,900 mm.

For decades the Żuk was the backbone of Polish commercial transport and was exported beyond Poland to other Eastern Bloc states and to Western Europe. As a panel van it served tradesmen and the postal service, as a minibus it served rural passenger transport; its simple engineering made it easy to repair and durable even on difficult roads.

When buying used, check for corrosion on wings, door sills and the frame, the condition of the brakes and ignition distributor, and the tightness of the fuel system; parts for the four-cylinder engine and simple chassis are found mainly through the Polish classic-vehicle market, while body panels are becoming increasingly scarce.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
