The Ford AA was Ford's first dedicated truck, introduced in 1927 alongside the Model A passenger car and built until 1932, when the Model BB took over. The AA designation follows Ford's naming logic of the time after the Model A; it used the same four-cylinder engine of around 40 hp as the Model A, mounted on a chassis strengthened for the higher payload. From 1929, the AA was also built under licence in the Soviet Union as the model for the GAZ-AA, produced there from 1932.

In the late 1920s and early 1930s, the AA was among the most widely built light trucks in the world, used in numerous body styles from flatbed to panel van for trade, agriculture and fire services; its simple, robust engineering made it the basis for numerous licensed builds outside the United States.
When buying one of these historic vehicles, check the condition of the four-cylinder engine including carburettor and ignition, rust on the frame and fenders, and the operation of the mechanical brakes. Wooden-spoke wheels and leaf springs need regular inspection; parts come almost exclusively through specialist vintage restorers and Ford Model A/AA clubs.
