The Ford 3230 belongs to the tractor group and was built by Ford. It is part of the tractor series and delivers a power output of 37 hp (27,2 kW) at a rated speed of 2 000 rpm. The engine has three cylinders with a displacement of 3 142 cm³ and produces a maximum torque of 153 Nm. Its dimensions are 3 606 mm in length, 1 795 mm in width and 2 248 mm in height, with a dry weight of 2 437 kg. The transmission provides 8 forward and 2 reverse gears, the top speed is 30 km/h and the fuel tank holds 65.7 l. The tractor is classified in the lift‑capacity category Cat I.

With 37 hp the 3230 can handle light to medium pulling tasks such as operating plows or cultivators on smaller fields. The 153 Nm torque assists starting under load, while the 8‑speed gearbox offers fine speed selection for various field operations. A dry weight of 2 437 kg results in moderate ground pressure, allowing use on soft soils without excessive compaction. The 65.7 l tank capacity enables longer work periods between refuelling stops.

The Ford 3230 is suited for typical work in the smaller to medium field segment. It is appropriate for farms that require a light tractor for cultivating cereals, corn or rapeseed, providing a compact, maneuverable machine with sufficient power for common agricultural implements.

Ford – other models: the collective page of tractors outside the named ranges, from the Thousand series through the 10 series to the articulated tractors with Cummins and Caterpillar engines, 10 to 300 kW

This page gathers the Ford tractors the register could not assign to a named range – from small utility tractors of the North American and British plants to the heavy articulated tractors of the Versatile brand, taken over by Ford in the late 1980s. Ford had built farm tractors since 1917, first in Dearborn, from the 1930s also in Dagenham, England; the post-war 600 to 900 models led in 1965 into the Thousand series (2000, 3000, 4000, 5000), replaced in 1975 by the generation with a leading 0. From 1981 came the 10 series (2110 to 8210), in which the first two digits give the size and the last the generation; SU marks the narrow-track Utility version. The big articulated tractors, formerly built under the Versatile name in Winnipeg, ran from 1987 as the Ford FW with Cummins and Caterpillar engines; after the merger with New Holland in 1991 the independent Ford range ended.

The register lists here 237 versions with 9.7 to 300 kW from two- to eight-cylinders of 1,390 to 14,801 cm³, PTO outputs up to 163 hp, unladen weights from 1,061 to 14,200 kg, gross weights from 2,280 to 11,400 kg, lengths from 2,410 to 7,600 mm and widths from 1,070 to 2,845 mm; the engines are mostly Ford's own, Cummins and Caterpillar in the big articulated tractors.

For decades Ford was, alongside International Harvester, Massey Ferguson and John Deere, one of the best-selling tractor brands of North America and Europe, focused on utility tractors for family farms; the FW-range articulated tractors competed in the top power segment with Steiger and Case IH.

On used tractors, engine condition, clutch and gearbox synchros count on the older ranges, hydraulics and electrics on the 10 series, and on the articulated tractors operating hours, condition of the four-wheel drive and tyres, and parts supply for the Cummins or Caterpillar engines, which today runs outside the Ford network.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
