Fliegl VTS – trailer range from the Bavarian manufacturer: 7 versions, unladen weight from 7,500 to 12,080 kg, uniform gross weight of 40,000 kg, lengths up to 14.35 metres

Fliegl was founded in 1979 by Konrad Fliegl in Mühldorf am Inn and grew from an agricultural-machinery workshop into one of Europe's largest manufacturers of commercial and agricultural trailers. The model names of the VTS range combine the code VTS with a number such as 300, 360 or 400, with two versions supplemented by further number groups joined by a slash or plus sign, as in VTS 400/128/563/128 and VTS 400/131+570+131; alongside these stand the variant VT-S 400 with a hyphen and the base form VTS without a number.

The register lists here 7 versions with unladen weights from 7,500 to 12,080 kg at a gross weight of a constant 40,000 kg. Lengths range from 10,250 to 14,350 mm, and widths from 2,500 to 3,000 mm.

With a uniform gross weight of 40 tonnes and lengths of over 14 metres, the VTS range is among the heavy trailers in the Fliegl programme, which spans from agricultural machinery to commercial trailers for road freight.

When buying a used trailer of this range, check the frame and chassis rails for corrosion and cracking, the condition of the multi-axle units and the braking system, the operation of the suspension, and the tightness of the tarpaulin or body. Fliegl offers spare parts for its ranges through a dealer network, including older, no-longer-current versions. On the wider versions, also check for any oversize-transport markings.

What to check before buying

  • Search the frame and welds at the axle mounts — that is where cracks start.
  • Check the brakes and the last inspection in the papers.
  • Work the gross weight against the towing vehicle before buying.
  • Compare the chassis number with the papers.
  • Look at the floor, cover or body from the inside — rust does not show from outside.
